Welcome decision to issue 200-rupee notes: 2000-rupees notes be not printed any more
It refers to board of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in March 2017 reportedly having given nod to print 200-rupees notes. Decision will also be in tune with internationally accepted system for printing currency-notes in a series of 1-2-5 which required denomination of 200-rupees notes between existing currency-denominations of rupees 100 and 500.
But with same norms, 2000-notes should no more to be printed with central government already having ruled out plan to issue 1000-rupees notes. Otherwise also, 2000-rupees notes are not acceptable amongst masses, and might being for parking dirty money and parallel economy of black money thus killing the very purpose of bold step of demonetization taken on 08.11.2017.
Union Minister of State for Finance on 31.03.2017 in a written reply in Lok Sabha had to rule out issue of notes in denominations of rupees 21 and 51. Earlier Department of Economic Affairs in an RTI response ruled out issue of 25-rupees notes as once favoured by Prime minister in his monthly radio-programme Man-ki-Baat. Such denominations need not be considered or even discussed at higher levels because metric-system and international norms require currency-printing in 1-2-5 series only.
With reduced sizes of notes of rupees 500 and 2000, sizes of notes of other denominations of rupees 10, 20, 50 and 100 changed half-century ago, should also be reduced. Internationally experimented plastic-currency should be introduced to curb printing of fake-currency and increasing life of currency-notes to save cost on currency-printing. However printing of one-rupee note re-issued on 06.03.2015 just for bureaucratic-craze of their signing notes, should be immediately stopped.
