India should break Gandhi-monopoly on currency notes
It refers to welcome media-reports that famous Indian scientist Jagdish Chandra Bose is amongst those who is likely to be figured on one of the denominations of British currency pound. It is high time that India should break Gandhi-monopoly on currency-notes of all denominations. To avoid political controversies, Reserve Bank of India and Central government should portray prominent pre-independence personalities having died before 15.08.1947 on currency-notes of different denominations. A committee also consisting of Prime Minister and leader of largest opposition party in Lok Sabha should decide unanimously prominent pre-independence personalities to be figured on different denominations of currency-notes. Even normally circulated coins other than commemorative coins can also accommodate embossed pictures of such pre-independence personalities.
