RTI amendment bill on salaries of Information Commissioners: What about Election Commissioners and others including judges

RTI amendment bill on salaries of Information Commissioners: What about Election Commissioners and others including judges

TOP STORIES, समाचार
Union Minister for Personnel and Training while piloting the bill in Lok Sabha on 20.07.2019 on salaries and tenure of Information Commissioners argued that since verdicts of Information Commissioners could be challenged at Supreme Court, it was illogical to keep Central Information Commissioners at par with Supreme Court judges in respect of salaries etc. But same holds good for Election Commissioners also where Election Commission is also usually a party before Supreme Court. Whole system of fixing salaries, perks and post-retirement benefits for all in judiciary, bureaucracy and legislature should be same. Supreme Court judges, Election Commissioners, Information Commissioners and even those on highest post of legislature including President and Prime Minister should be paid salaries...

Lok Sabha Speaker deserves compliments for making Lok Sabha work in truly Indian style with maximum utilisation of valuable time

Even opposition members of Lok Sabha have appreciated best-ever utilisation of on-going budget-session of Lok Sabha under Speaker Om Birla who has also made Lok Sabha work in true Indian style by conducting proceedings in Hindi rather than traditional till-now English. Usual - the ayes have it or the noes have it – have been replaced by - haan paksh jeeta - or naa paksh jeeta, whatever the case may be. He has even asked members for not wasting even a single second by usual thanking to the Chair before start of their speeches. He has even, rightly too, objected to Parliamentarians talking to each other while the House is in session, and even objected to members going to seats of others while Speaker was on chair. It should be hoped that his strict discipline will make the House work in m...

In the death of three-term former Chief Minister Shiela Dixit, Delhi has lost its loving daughter who was a mother to younger politicians cutting across party lines as was clear from tribute by Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari who became highly emotional while speaking to media on her death despite the fact that he recently won Lok Sabha against the departed leader who welcomed him like a mother when he went to seek her blessings on winning election against her. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia while declaring two-day state-mourning and state-funeral on her death, even cancelled their personal pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi. Above all, Prime Minister Narender Modi joined unending stream of politicians and others having visited her residence to offer fl...

Quality and prices of generic medicines

It refers to BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab raising issue of generic drugs in Lok Sabha on 19.07.2019, rightly demanding an inquiry to find out the efficacy of generic drugs quoting recent book-study that Indian drug manufacturers were producing quality generic medicines for US and European countries with sub-standard generic medicines marketed in domestic market. Companies exporting generic medicines should be checked and required to file affidavits that generic medicines for domestic and foreign markets are of the same quality. Such a mention may otherwise also not be baseless where generic medicines in India have Maximum-Retail-Price MRP printed at exorbitant profit-margin upto 400-percent over the ex-factory price. Looting general public through cheap-considered generic medicines must no...

It refers to outdated legal-provision whereby the person having helped police in getting hold of a phone-snatcher has to deprive with his mobile-phone to be kept in police-custody after a failed attempt of mobile-phone having been snatched. Mobile-phones in general have valuable data which has now-a-days in fast changing life-style have rather become lifeline of mobile-users. It is even more strange that police does not allow to withdraw the complaint so that the victim may not have to compulsorily deposit his mobile-phone in police-custody till court-orders. Such outdated legal-provisions are in fact root cause of dutiful people avoiding filing police-complaints not only in their own interest but also in in larger interest of society where no person may exhibit boldness in getting a ph...

Ahead of Imran Khan, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and his delegation’s visit to the United States of America on 22nd July, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) sent a letter to President Trump requesting his intervention in the deteriorating situation in the Pakistani province of Baluchistan. Sixteen, cross-party, pan European MEPs signed the letter during this week’s European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg, France. The MEPs highlighted the dire situation for the Baluch people stating that “The people of the province have legitimate grievances – they are relatively powerless against the State trying to silence them.” The economy of Pakistan in recent years has been in decline leading to a debt ridden State. As such, the Government of Pakistan has beco...

Opposition should not insist on Prime Minister responding to big lie of US President Donald Trump for diplomatic reasons

Both House of Parliament on 23.07.2019 witnessed noisy scenes by opposition-members demanding personal appearance of Prime Minister to give clarification on yet another big lie of Donald Trump out of about 12000 he has so far spoken as US President. Opposition-demand apparently looked justified because habitual liar Donald Trump named specifically Prime Minister Narender Modi having asked Donald Trump to mediate with Pakistan on Kashmir issue. But US President is biggest powerful person in the world, and for all diplomatic reasons, clarification by Prime Minister Narender Modi personally would have annoyed Donald Trump which would have cost India heavily in many aspects. Not only Government of India through late-night instant press-release followed by categorical denial by Indian Foreig...

Central government should refer names of those self-acclaimed intellectuals who have written to Prime Minister on mob-lynching etc allegedly on minorities and Dalits (and not on those many from minority section who brutally killed people from majority community) to Intelligence Bureau for finding their real motives. Intention was clear when convenor of press-conference on 24.07.2019 declined to respond to media-persons on incidents of Hindus having been brutally killed by Muslims. Such people are not less guilty than elements like Akbaruddin Obassi always provoking Muslims against Hindus through his poisonous speeches. Enquiry should also be made and public-land snatched from NGOs who were liberally granted huge pieces of land and funds by earlier UPA and Congress governments because of...
