Subsidy to encourage e-cars and levy on new cars to discourage: Other measures necessary

Subsidy to encourage e-cars and levy on new cars to discourage: Other measures necessary

addtop, TOP STORIES, आर्थिक
It refers to media-reports that central government is planning a heavy subsidy of rupees 50000 on purchase of e-cars while levying levy of rupees 12000 on purchase of new cars to discourage their sale. Both the steps are grossly inadequate to practically discourage sale of traditional cars driven by petrol and diesel. With procurement price of both petrol and diesel being almost same, diesel is priced cheaper because it is used in commercial vehicles. Production of diesel-driven cars is gross misuse of having price of diesel less than that of petrol. There must be a complete ban on production of diesel-cars. All cars must have engines capable of being driven by petrol and CNG both. To discourage production of bigger cars occupying more space in road and parking, GST, road-tax, insura...

99-percent items to be under 18-percent or lower GST-slabs: What about service-sector

TOP STORIES, आर्थिक
It refers to media-reports about lowering GST on many more items so that 99-percent items will be under 18-percent or lower GST-slab as yet other unneeded financial gimmick. It is not proper to reduce GST-slab on items of long-term use like air-conditioners, refrigerators etc because it is one-time payment. Lower GST-slabs are beneficial on items of day-to-day use. But government has never thought of lowering GST-slab on invisible service-sector where it needs urgent lowering from existing 18-percent slab to 12-percent. Such a high rate of GST-slab hurts badly those honest tax-payers where professional service-providers have to pay from their pocket heavy dose of 18-percent GST when those having availed service do not pay GST. For examples even government-departments and TV channels do ...
Malpractices of Banks in respect of credit-cards

Malpractices of Banks in respect of credit-cards

TOP STORIES, आर्थिक
Union government and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) should take note of malpractices of Banks in respect of credit-cards. Arguments put by Banks to have extra-ordinary interest-rate to overcome heavy cost in credit-card operation is in itself confessional for giving banks permission to levy ‘hidden charges’ to befool customers. Banks can instead levy charges on issuing and transactions made through credit-cards. Even credit-card statements are designed in a manner like ‘Minimum Amount Due’ to befool customers that they put themselves in heavy dose of interest-rate. Banks also resort to malpractice by deliberately not sending credit-cards statements to make customers defaulters forcing them to pay heavy interest-dose apart from penalty. Any shortfall in payment attracts penalty and interest...

Loan-waivers, subsidies and promises directly affecting economy must not be allowed as part of poll-manifestoes

addtop, BREAKING NEWS, TOP STORIES, राष्ट्रीय
Former Governor of Reserve Bank of India RBI Raghuram Rajan has very rightly raised concern of vote-catching gimmicks like loan-waivers for farmers which very adversely affect the economy and mute middle-class tax-payers, with farmers ultimately at loss by one-time advantage of availing gimmick loan-waiver. There must be a complete ban on such promises like subsidies, loan-waivers etc to be part of poll-manifestoes of political parties. Ultimate sufferer of such loan-waivers is mute category of middle-class tax-payer who has to bear burnt of additional taxes or cost-inflation due to deficit economy caused due to loan-waivers, subsidies or other schemes directly affecting public-exchequers. Even subsidy-system should be fast abolished in a gradual manner. Agricultural income over certain...
Simplify Income Tax procedure by merging TAN with PAN

Simplify Income Tax procedure by merging TAN with PAN

addtop, BREAKING NEWS, TOP STORIES, आर्थिक
Presently Income Tax Department provides two types of numbers namely Permanent Account Number -PAN, and Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number -TAN. While PAN is to be obtained for every tax-payer, TAN is a special number required only by those responsible for Tax Deducted at Source -TDS. Those required to obtain TAN number have to go through cumbersome procedure of filing TDS returns every quarter even though tax is deducted at source only say once in a complete year. Moreover there can be cases where TDS provision may required to be used only once in several years. It troubles very much to such TAN holders who are unnecessarily compelled to file TDS returns as nil every quarter. Even Income Tax Department has to spend much on staff and other overheads for managing those registered u...

Consumers filing complaints advised to approach consumer-courts My complaint dated 01.11.2018 against non-supply of desired pre-booked meal in GoAir flight-number 145 from Delhi to Ranch with seat-number 6A and PNR-number DE164B on 29.10.2018 reached to Department of Consumer Affairs when a lady calling from telephone-number 23761699 of the Department on 12.12.2018 at 10.55 am for more than 12 minutes (voice-recording with me) strongly advocated for GoAir that the airliner did so according to rules framed by GoAir, and I must have been aware of such anti-consumer rules of GoAir before pre-booking the meal. She further asked me to approach Consumer Court in case I wished to challenge GoAir rules. If consumers are to approach consumer-courts for such petty matters and anti-public rules, ...

SC order on appointing CICs: All eight vacancies may be filled from existing list

It refers to welcome Supreme Court order directing central government to make appointment-process of Central Information Commissioners CICs including the Chief transparent by putting list of applicants on website making clear service-conditions of CICs. Supreme Court has also directed to initiate appointment-process of other three CICs wherein presently the process is initiated only for appointment of Chief Information Commissioner and four more Commissioners because at that time there were only four vacancies at CIC with four more retired after wards in November-December 2018. But instead of further delaying and spending extra on the appointment-process, central government can better select all the eight new Commissions from the existing list of applicants by seeking appropriate direct...

Merger of banks: Should be earliest and in one go

addtop, TOP STORIES, आर्थिक
Union Cabinet on 23.08.2017 had given nod in principle for merger of public-sector banks but to be started in phases that too only after a long time-consuming process of deliberations and consultations in committees to be formed for the purpose. Talks of merger of nationalized banks have been there for so many years, and as such necessary and sufficient reports must have been ready by now for an early implementation of already over-delayed decision. It is also clear from news appearing in media about five banks (apart from State Bank of India) namely Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, Union Bank of India, Bank of India and Bank of Baroda being made anchor banks where all other banks are to be merged. Merger should be in one-go rather than in phases that too earliest in a time-bound peri...

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the most common serious eye complications that occurs in premature babies. It can lead to incomplete blood vessel growth in the retina, and eventual loss of vision. A group of researchers in Hyderabad have identified a biomarker that can help in detecting the risk of ROP from just a drop of tear. Premature babies are administered oxygen to help them survive in incubators. This process, however, has to be monitored carefully as overexposure to oxygen can be highly toxic to blood vessels including those in the retina. Overexposure to oxygen in neonatal care is a major cause of ROP. Low oxygen levels in the retina when the child is out of incubator cause abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina, which in turn causes loss of neurons and vision lo...

Different yard-sticks to choose Prime Minister and Chief Ministers in Congress It refers to extra-ordinary time taken by Congress high-command in selecting three Chief Ministers for the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh where the party won in recently-held elections, with reports of Rajasthan having 15 ministers each from rival groups of Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot. Even for Chhattisgarh, media-reports indicate that formula is evolved to have two different Chief Ministers for half-term each. It looks like that Congress-won states have a sort of compromised coalition governments, rather than governments with a single-party rule. It is significant that party-leaders look their young party-President with little experience as future Prime Minister of the nation while...
