Border-tensions and corona crated by China has developed anger and provocation amongst public demanding total ban on Chinese goods in Indian markets. But there may be three types of Chinese goods (a) for which Indian substitutes are available even at comparatively high prices where Indian importers import for their trade-profiteering (b) presently not available in India markets, but India has potential to manufacture like computer-parts (c) essential ones for which India has to depend on Chinese goods with no India substitutes possible presently like medicine-salts.
Central government should make it compulsory to obtain import-license by Indian distributors for importing Chinese goods. Import of goods listed in (a) category where Indian substitutes are presently available even at comparatively high prices, should be immediately banned.
Goods listed in (b) category where India has potential to manufacture may be allowed for some limited period with Indian importers may be motivated to manufacture these either by setting up their own industries or other industrial-giants can be asked to start working on manufacture of such items like computer-parts. Indian government should motivate foreign companies to set up their units in India which till now have set up units in China. Even central-government can revive old renowned public-sector-undertakings like Hindustan Machine Tools and Indian Telephone Industries for manufacture of such items. Even foreign companies like Samsung can be persuaded to start manufacturing items like computer-parts.
However goods listed in (c) category like some medicine salts (Paracetamol and others) may be allowed to be imported till India is able to produce these by itself or find an alternative from some other country.
