गुटखा और खैनी जैसे तम्बाकू उत्पादों का सेवन करने वाले दुनिया के 65 प्रतिशत लोग भारत में हैं और यहां मुंह के कैंसर के 90 प्रतिशत मामले इन उत्पादों के उपयोग की वजह से ही होते हैं। इसीलिए तंबाकू उपयोग के नियंत्रण के लिए एक समग्र नीति की जरूरत है। एक ताजा अध्ययन में ये बातें उभरकर आई हैं। सिर्फ छह देश ऐसे तंबाकू उत्पादों की जांच और विनियमन करते हैं और केवल 41 देश इन उत्पादों पर सचित्र स्वास्थ्य चेतावनी देते हैं। धूम्रपान के मुकाबले धुआं रहित तम्बाकू से जुड़े नुकसान के बारे में जागरूकता भी कम हैं। सिर्फ 16 देशों ने धुआं रहित तंबाकू के विज्ञापन, प्रचार और प्रायोजकों पर व्यापक रूप से प्रतिबंध लगाया है। शोध पत्रिका द लैंसेट ऑन्कोलॉजी में प्रकाशित इस अध्ययन में 181 देशों में तंबाकू नियंत्रण उपायों से जुड़े विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (डब्ल्यूएचओ) के दिशा निर्देशों के कार्यान्वयन की स्थिति को रेखां...

BSNL under heavy losses not paying salaries now planning VRS: Why not wind up BSNL

It is a matter of concern that public-sector BSNL is running under heavy losses now planning for VSNL of its employees after public-sector company failed to pay regular salaries to its staff. It is surprising that while private players like JIO are earning profits even after offering economical tariffs, BSNL is not able to retain or increase its client-base thus turning BSNL as a loss-generating company for public-exchequer.
