It is indeed a matter of concern that as many as 77 invalid votes including 21 from Parliamentarians were found in counting held on 20.07.2017 for the Presidential elections where only law-makers vote. Persons not knowing how to vote in preferential system of voting cannot be supposed to be good law-makers. While plenty of educated persons in the country are jobless with regular increase in number, it is time that some minimum educational qualification may be fixed for contesting elections. It refers to Congress-led Karnataka government issuing show-cause notice to DIG (prisons) D Roopa for alleged violation of service-rules when she exposed massive irregularity of VVIP jail-treatment to imprisoned AIIADMK leader VK Sasikala on payment of hefty bribe of rupees two crores or so. It is quite common that super-rich or influential prisoners usually find jails like some lonely luxury resort on basis of their money-power or other influence. D Roopa by exposing such a specific case should rather have been honoured on her bold initiative rather than being targeted by the state-government.
