India & Singapore agree to promote collaboration in S&T

India and Singapore have agreed to promote cooperation in the areas of science, technology, and innovation. The pact will follow a demand-driven approach and facilitate joint projects involving institutions and industries from the two countries.
The Memorandum of understanding signed by Dr. S Chandrasekhar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, and Dr. Lee Chuan Teck, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade & Industry, Government of Singapore, also provides for greater mobility of scientists and high-level experts, sharing of experiences on the national research, development, and innovation policies and programmes, and exchange of scientific and technological information.
Besides, it seeks to organise partnership development activities, workshops, scientific seminars, and conferences covering fields and issues of common interest, including areas like agriculture and food science and technology, advanced manufacturing and engineering, green economy, energy, water, climate, and natural resources, data science, emerging technologies, advanced materials, and health and biotechnology.
The MoU will remain in effect for five years and will be automatically extended for a successive period of another five years.
Following the signing of MoU, Mr. SK Varshney, Adviser & Head, International Cooperation, Department of Science and Technology, and Mr. Edwin Chow, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Enterprise Singapore, also signed an implementation agreement.
